Bus driver injured in W-H parking lot
By Stephanie Spyropoulos
Tuesday, February 07, 2012 04:03 PM

A male party was transported to the hospital after being struck by a car in the parking lot at Whitman Hanson Regional High School. His injuries were described as non-life threatening.

Initial reports made to emergency 911 dispatch indicated that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.

“We responded and found a male bus driver sitting in a wheel chair being attended to by school personnel. He appeared to have non-life threatening injuries,” said Chief Jerome Thompson of Hanson fire.

The incident occurred at the time of dismissal around 2 p.m. on Tuesday Feb. 7 when buses and foot traffic around the school is heaviest.

Lt. Robert Hover of Whitman fire confirmed the man was transported to South Shore Hospital by Whitman ambulance to be evaluated following the incident.

Elaine Crudup, First Student manager declined to comment on the incident citing company privacy policies.

“This afternoon prior to dismissal at the high school, there was an incident with a motor vehicle driver and a school bus driver. There were no Whitman Hanson students or staff injured, and there appears to be no serious injuries,” said Dr. Ruth C. Gilbert-Whitner, Superintendent of  Whitman-Hanson Regional School District in a press release.

This incident is under investigation by the Hanson police.
