Two straight losses for WHP

The Whitman-Hanson/Pembroke girls hockey team is still searching for the right combination of players to generate some offense.

The team suffered back-to-back 8-1 losses to Medway/Ashland on Friday at the Bridgewater Ice Arena and Barnstable on Cape Cod Saturday to fall to 0-4-1 on the season.

Despite the lopsided scores, head coach Joe Coulter said he saw some positive signs from the team as he tinkered with his lines.

“I went with new combinations of lines and was pleased with both games,” Coulter said.

Coulter also said he was happy to see freshman Nicole Halloran score her first high school goal in the loss to Barnstable and was pleased with the performance of junior Mel Hatch in goal against some potent offensive teams.

“Mel Hatch made some great saves,” he said. “And Jess Govoni came up big.”

WHP will be back in action Saturday when they play the defending state champion Duxbury Dragons at the Bridgewater Ice Arena.
