Fast start for track team
By Dave Palana
Wednesday, December 14, 2011 01:49 PM

The Whitman-Hanson boys indoor track team had two meets in six days, but the lack of rest didn’t stop the Panthers from dominating both to jump out in front of the Patriot League.

The Panthers started their winter season Thursday with an 85-15 win over the Middleboro Sachems and followed up by placing first in every event in an 81-19 win over the Duxbury Dragons Tuesday at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Senior Dom Cacciatore won the 55-meter dash, long jump and 300 meters in the win over the Dragons, while junior Nate Stephansky earned two first-place finishes in the mile and 1,000 meters.

Cacciatore’s win in the long jump led a sweep of the event for the Panthers with Brian Chapman and Hank Moylan placing second and third. The Panthers also swept the 600 meters with a win by senior Dylan Foureau and second and third places by Paul Kennedy and Andrew Howland. The win was also aided by a sweep in the 600-meter by Dylan Foureau, Paul Kennedy and Andrew Howard and a sweep in the long jump by Dom Cacciatore, Brian Chapman and Hank Moylan.

Cacciatore also won the same three events in the Panthers’ victory over the Sachems last week while, Stephansky also won the 1,000. Senior Pat Ryan added a win in the two-mile while Pat Mulrey completed the sweep of the distance events with a win in the mile run. Whitman-Hanson also got wins in the field events from Ian MacDonald in the shot put and Steve Croghan in the high jump and a win by the 4x400 relay team.
