Lorraine A. (Purcell) Akusis, 88, of Whitman died Friday, Feb. 24 after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late George Akusis, Sr.
Born and raised in the “Southie” section of Boston she was the daughter of the late Harry and Anna (Wedge) Purcell. As a longtime resident of the Whitman community, Lorraine had been a dedicated communicant of the Holy Ghost Church. She enjoyed bingo and shopping but her greatest joy came from the time spent with her large family. She leaves her children Neil Akusis of Weymouth, Peter Akusis of Bourne, Ann Marie Randall of Brockton, John Akusis of Rockland, William Akusis of Marshfield, Larry Akusis of Maine, Jeanne Naugler of Rockland, Clara Reno of Halifax, and Scott Akusis of North Carolina. She also leaves many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late George, Stanley, and Harry Akusis and sister of the late Harry, Jr., Allan, and Dorothy Purcell, Marie Swimm and Norma Reardon. Her services will be held at 8:15 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28 from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel (Route 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9 a.m. in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in Fern Hill Cemetery, Hanson. Visting hours will be held from 4-8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 27.
