Hazel B. (Jones) Burns of Whitman passed away peacefully Feb 2, 2012, after a brief illness. She was 88 years old. She was born, raised and resided in Whitman for all of her years.
She was a daughter of the late Bradford and Lilian Jones of Whitman and wife of the late Joseph L. Burns. She leaves her brother Robert of Brewster, and was predeceased by her sister Marian. She also leaves her sons Stephen of Hanson and Dennis of Taunton, as well as her five grandchildren and three great-grand children. During the late 1940s to the '60s, she was the head waitress at the Toll House Restaurant in Whitman. It was a known fact that upon arrival of any dignitary, Hazel was the one that the owner wanted to serve them. In her later years she enjoyed spending time in Florida with her husband Joe and enjoyed making time to be with her family. Visiting hours at the MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington St, Whitman, are 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb 7. The funeral service is 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb 8 from the Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 49 School St, Whitman, followed by interment at St James Cemetery, Whitman. |
