Colby W. McCarthy, 24, of Hanson died suddenly Saturday Nov. 12 in a tragic car accident just a short distance from his home.

 

Born in Weymouth July 20, 1987 he was the beloved son of Kevin and Debra (Estes) McCarthy.

He was a graduate of Whitman-Hanson Regional High School Class of 2005.

Colby had proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2005-2009, attaining the rank of sergeant and had served two tours of duty, including one in Iraq.

He was currently employed by Brigham & Women’s Hospital of Boston as a security guard and was attending Massasoit Community College where he was due to graduate in January 2012.

Colby was an avid reader and a talented artist and writer. He was a passionate fisherman who loved nature and the outdoors.

In addition to his parents he leaves  his  siblings Kaitlyn MacCallum and her husband Warren, Patrick McCarthy, and Kacie McCarthy all of Hanson, his grandmothers Joanne Estes, and Lorraine McCarthy, his aunts and uncles Cathy and Greg Smith, Lori Russo, Robin Conrad and Karin Mazzella, his cousins Michael, Stacy, Samantha, Tori, Megan and CJ. He is also survived by many great aunts, uncles, and cousins.  He was the “Greatest Uncle” to Kaylee Standish, and Christian and Camryn MacCallum. He was the grandson of the late Walter Estes and Charles McCarthy.

Visiting hours will be held from 3-8 p.m., Thursday Nov. 17 in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel (Route 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m.,, Friday Nov. 18  in the Hanson Congregational Church, 639 High St, Hanson. Burial will follow in the Fern Hill Cemetery, Hanson.
