Richard F.Kelley Sr., 74
Monday, October 03, 2011 03:52 PM

Richard F. Kelley Sr., 74, of Hanson, died Saturday, Oct. 1 after a brave battle with cancer. He was the husband of Sharon (Taylor) Kelley.

Born in Brockton and raised in Marshfield, he was the son of the late John and Achsah (Hatch) Kelley and a graduate of Marshfield High.

Richard was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army having served from 1954 -1956. After the service he worked as a pipefitter for General Dynamics of Quincy where he retired after 30 years.

He had been a resident of Abington for more than 40 years, and had served for several years as an auxiliary police officer for the town before his move to Hanson four years ago.

He was a family man and truly enjoyed the time spent with his three grandchildren, Kelley, Michael, and Taylor.

In addition to his wife Sharon, he leaves his children, Richard Kelley Jr. and his wife Gale of Solon, Maine and Cheryl Young and her husband Dale of Hanson; his three grandchildren, as well as three brothers, three sisters and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 7, in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel. Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary), Whitman.  Burial will follow in the Marshfield Hills Cemetery, Marshfield.  Visiting hours will be held from 5-9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 6.

Donations in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5 Manly St., West Bridgewater, MA 02379.
