Joanne Wiseman, 68
Monday, September 26, 2011 11:31 AM

Joanne Gail (Durand) Wiseman,68, of Cotuit died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011.

The beloved wife of 49 years to David Wiseman, she was also the mother of Jeffrey Wiseman and his wife, Michelle, of Centerville, Christopher Wiseman and his wife, Judith, of Marstons Mills and Jason Wiseman and his wife, Sara, of Cotuit. She also leaves her nine grandchildren, Michael Wiseman, Christine Squillante, David Wiseman, Sarah Wiseman, Andrew Wiseman, Julia Wiseman, Garret Wiseman, Marc Wiseman, and Noah Wiseman.

She was the sister of Robert Durand and his wife, Susan, of Whitman. She also leaves three nieces, Beth Durand, Aimee Durand, and Cathy Kemp, one great-niece, Sophia Kemp, and many cousins.

Joanne was born to Robert Durand Sr. and Marjorie Durand of Whitman in 1943. She was raised in Whitman and was a 1961 graduate of Whitman-Hanson Regional High School. After high school Joanne moved to Cape Cod to attend the Cape Cod Hospital’s School of Practical Nursing.

It was on the Cape that Joanne met and married David L. Wiseman. Together they raised their three sons in Cotuit. Joanne worked at Crabtree & Evelyn, as the manager of the John F. Kennedy Museum of Hyannis, and as a learning facilitator at Education Inc. before retiring in 2009. She then volunteered with the Mended Hearts Association at the Cape Cod Hospital to inspire hope in heart disease patients and their families.

Joanne enjoyed music, travel, genealogy, reading, and shopping, but of all her interests, her family was the most important. She was a compassionate, optimistic, and outgoing person who made friends wherever she went and brought sunshine into the lives of others. Joanne will be remembered as a truly wonderful person and will be sadly missed by all those blessed to have had her in their lives.

Her services were held on Thursday, Sept. 22, at the John-Lawrence Funeral Home in Marstons Mills. A graveside service was held on Friday, Sept. 23, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Donations in memory of Joanne may be made to The Mended Hearts Assoc. or the American Diabetes Assoc.
