Shirley M. (Torrey) Doyle 78, a resident of Whitman for more than 50 years, died Wednesday, Sept. 7 after a brief period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of James J. Doyle.
Born and raised in Duxbury she was the daughter of the late Carlton P. and Ethel (Howe) Torrey and had attended Duxbury schools. Shirley loved traveling and listening to country music, but her greatest joy came from the time spent with her family and caring for her many grandchildren. In addition to her husband James she leaves her children Kevin Doyle of Whitman, Karen Sullivan and her husband Stephen of Hanson, and Kent Doyle and his wife Kerin of Ludlow, her siblings Carlton Torrey, Jr., Pauline Gosselin, Lorraine Torrey, and George Torrey. She is also survived by her grandchildren whom she adored Kelly Ann, James, Paul, Andrew, Seamus, and Collin, her great grandchildren Zackary, Ashley, Rebecca, and Owen as well as several nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be held at noon, Friday, Sept. 9 in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 10 a.m. – noon. |
