Alexander Y. Murray, 82

Alexander Y. Murray, 82, a long time resident of Whitman died Friday, Sept. 2. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara (Hodgson) Murray.

He was born in Neilston, Scotland, son of the late Alexander and Elizabeth (Young) Murray.

Alexander was a veteran of the Royal Air Force in Scotland as well as serving in the United States Army, during the Korean War from 1952-1954.

He worked for Raytheon as a sheet metal worker and retired in 1994.

Alexander was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 60 years and also a member of the Whitman VFW Post 697.

He had a true love for gardening and golf.

He leaves his children, Linda Ford and her husband Donald of Hanson, Kenneth Murray and his wife Lorna of Brockton and Steven Murray and his wife Marie of Brockton, six grandchildren; Jenna, Luke, Ben and Brittany Ford, Matthew and Tyler Murray, his brother Adam Murray of Bridgewater, his niece Deborah McKenna and his nephew Dana Murray.

His services will be held at 10 a.m.,  Wednesday, Sept. 7 in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Visitation will be from 5-9 pm., Tuesday, Sept. 6. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Make a Wish Foundation, One Bull Finch Place,  2nd Floor, Boston, MA 02114 or to The Cam Neely Foundation,  30 winter Street 2nd Floor, Boston, MA 02108.
