John M. Baxivonus, 82, a longtime resident of Whitman, died Thursday, Aug. 18 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was the husband of Helen (Cassidy) Baxivonus. John was born in Baltimore, Maryland, son of the late Mary (Kryger) Baxivonus. He proudly served his country for four years in the United Sates Navy. John worked as a computer operations manager for the Massachusetts General Hospital for more than 35 years. He was passionate about his family, sports and music, especially Neil Diamond. In addition to his wife Helen, he leaves his son, Mark Baxivonus of Weymouth and his daughter, Karen (Baxivonus) Sheridan of Abington, his granddaughters, Kate (Sheridan) Femia and her husband Giuseppe of Whitman, Emily Sheridan of Abington, his two great -grandsons, Nicholas John and Aidan Joseph Femia. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his services at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23 from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9 a.m in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Dorchester, MA. Visiting hours will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday Aug. 22.
