A former town employee was sentenced to a year of probation last week after he admitted to assaulting a man who was dropping off scrap metal at the transfer station in January 2008. Alfred C. Kantos, 52, of Baker Street faced one charge of assault and battery in the incident, which occurred on Jan. 22, 2008. A man told police he had thrown a broken metal swing into the scrap metal bin when Kantos started hitting his passenger door and yelling at him, then chest bumped him when he got out of the car. Kantos said the two had argued but that he had not physically assaulted the man, according to police reports. Kantos admitted to the charge in Plymouth District Court on Oct. 13. His case was continued without a finding and, along with probation, the judge ruled that anger management was “necessary,” according to court documents. “Why can’t everyone just get along,” Kantos said, when asked to comment. “I have no bad feelings against anyone.” Kantos is due back in court on Oct. 29 for a jury trial on a separate case in which he allegedly attempted to run a Board of Health member off the road in May 2008. The board member told police that Kantos had crossed into his lane when the two vehicles passed on Main Street/Route 27 and that, as the man had been heading to the police station to report the incident, Kantos returned and sped past his vehicle along with several other vehicles in his lane, according to the report. Kantos faces one charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
