HOT SPOT OF THE WEEK: Once again – Peaked Hill Bar. A whale watch show and many pods of tuna and jumbo bluefish.
TIP OF THE WEEK: Watch out for the Mako sharks (Surprise!) There are lots of seals in the area to draw in the sharks. COSTAL REPORT: Peaked Hill Bar has been hot one day and stone cold the next. When the bite is on there are lots of fish up to 59 inches for the recreational fisherman. The whale shows at Peaked Hill Bar are really amazing. The whales are everywhere at the bar. There are lots of seals and now we have some Mako sharks feeding here. The area is loaded with sand eels. The best tuna fishing is in 80 to 100 feet of water near the outside lobster pots. Cod fishing in 180 to 200 feet of water has been excellent with a bonus of some good size haddock. The best fishing is near the eastern edge of Stellwagen Bank in the area of the Rockpile. Bluefishing along Peaked Hill Bar all the way to the Race at Provincetown has been great with lots of hungry jumbo bluefish. Best bait here is most anything-these fish are feeding hungrily. At the Race at Provincetown bass fishing is good. Before first light some decent keepers are being caught by wire line jigging. Over at the Plymouth and Duxbury Bay area fishing for bass, bluefish, fluke and flounder has been excellent. If you’re looking for striper fish, your best bet is to fish late in the afternoon and early in the morning (before sunrise). There have been some nice stripers being taken on live bait. After sunup bluefish have been on the feed most everywhere. Fluke and flounder fishing has been good. The hot spot has been the outer part of the Cordage Channel. From outside Duxbury Bay to the jetties at Green Harbor deep water trolling has been the way to fish here. Umbrella rigs with a deep diver plug have been producing a few trophy stripers but fishing is slow. Flounder fishing at the Red Can has been okay and night fishing off the jetties has been okay for stripers and bluefish. Along Rexhame Beach in 70 to 80 feet of water wire line trolling a deep running lure (Rapalas are in gold) has been taking some large bluefish. Over at the mouth of the North River in 70 to 80 feet of water you can still jig up some mackerel for live bait. There are lots of spike mackerel but before the sun comes up you can find some in the two pound range. Live lining mackerel around Third and Fourth Cliffs has been good for getting some stripers in the 10 to 15 pound range. Along Third Cliff all the way to First Cliff, using small umbrella rigs on lead core line has been hot for stripers in the 28 to 32 inch range. Soon we will be seeing the Autumn run of fish so now is the time to check all your fishing gear. Good Fishing! |
